PolyLenders is a Cal Poly Organization started by Calvin Sandeen, Michael Pollack, Jason Patterson, Elena Teare, and Gabriella Bragoli. It started as a class project for the Cal Poly course: Appropriate Technology, Development taught by Professor Pete Schwartz. Our group was quickly drawn to the idea of Micro Loans and focused our project on creating a Micro Loan Organization.

 

Our goal was to establish an on campus Micro Loan Organization where students can connect directly with Haitian loan recipients . Our goal is to create financial independence for all Haitians through low interest loans, not charity. Students that participate in

 

The main objective of PolyLenders in Haiti is to address the severe ecological issue of deforestation through individual and small business loans. Primarily, this will be approached through the application of grassroots development theories in the rural agricultural communities of the island. 

 

We also provide Haitians with business skills training, mentoring, and weekly life skills education to enable them to become successful entrepeneurs. This continued education helps our clients run successful and sustainable business.
